Fashion Designer Donna Karan
Donna Karan was born, October 2, 1948, under the sign of Libra in Forest Hills, New York. She grew up in Woodmere, Long Island, and studied at Parsons - The New School of Design. She was the chief designer for Anne Kline sportswear in 1974.Donna won the Cody Award in 1977 and again in 1981. She started her company in 1984. “Design is aconstant challenge to balance comfort with luxe, the practical with the desirable.” D.K. In 1985, she introduced her “essentials” line. It consisted of seven pieces of clothing a woman must have and included a body suit, wrap skirt, blouse, pants, jacket, coat and something for the evening
She received a Lifetime Achievement Award fromthe Council of Fashion Designers of America. She is considered by some to be the queen of American Fashion. Her clothes are urban chic. She is known for designing comfortable women’s clothing - a mix of wool crepes, jersey knits, silks & cashmeres. In 1988, she started DKNY, a sportier street wear, a less expensive line.

Phillip Lim was born in 1973 to Chinese American immigrant parents. His father was a professional poker player and his mother a seamstress. He designs clothing that is easily wearable with a street-smart edge. He was inspired by Katayone Adeli’s clothing designs and interned for her until he moved from LA to New York in 2004.Along with his business partner Wen Zhou, he founded his own label. He and Wen Zhou were 31 at the time. Wearable tailored clothing. His first collection debut in 2005 was immediately successful. In 2007, he received an award from the Council of Fashion Designers of America.
He combines casual, clean lines with a distinctly American-urban feel. His clothing is available in 250 stores worldwide. He designs under his own name label, Phillip Lim 3.1
