Rectangular body type
Rectangular body type: also known as a boyish figure, banana shape, H frame or straight. The top and bottom measurements are about the same size. The waistline is less then 9” smaller then the bust and hips.
Women that have this body shape have a tendency to put on weight on their stomach first then face, chest, and hips.
Tops
Wear deep U and V-neck tops and any tops that have some drama to them.Layered and sheer, asymmetrical, embellished, textured, looser soft tops belted in and structured fitted tops are all good choices. Also pin tuck fitted shirts are great and fairly easy to find.
Dresses
Gathers that are sewn flat work well, because they don't puff out from the body. Remember, you don't want you to look bigger then you are. Most necklines will work with your body type, but a scoop or v-neck will be the most flattering. Column sheaths that give definition to the waist and sheaths that have circle skirts are also great choices.
An A-line is one of those dresses you don’t have to worry about your waist or lack of one. The design of the dress automatically eliminates this concern because it curves away from the body at your waist or higher depending on the a-line dress you choose. So spend your energy on length of the dress and accessories
Other dresses that would be flattering on your figure would be a wrap dress and a princess line dress.
Rectangular body type
Goal: Symmetry, keep the shoulders and hips balanced. Anything that gives the illusion that you have curves. What to wear? In general any details on the breast and hips are the best. |
Generally for this body type can use fabrics that have a bit of structure to them, like slightly stiffer fabric with some pleating or gathers around the hips. Fitted jackets that go to the top of the hipbone - like a crisp white shirt and an A-line skirt, cinched in at the waist with a belt.
