Fashion Tips for
Top
Heavy (apple shape) Body Types
The goal is to minimize your
top half and accentuate your bottom half
to create symmetry. For tops choose simple and plain, look for
v-necks or scoop neck lines. This will be easy if you looking
for looser
fit blouses and shirts. For shirts keep in mind they can be a godsend
if they’re sparse but awful if they have a lot of detail on them. Look
for ones with no pockets over the breasts and stay with simple collars.
Summer Clothes Tip #1
Choose either small and subtle prints or solid colors. Just remember
nothing tight on the top unless of course you want to accentuate your
bust line. A shirt or blouse should close without pulling.
Women with little or no derrières can use pants that have pleats in the
front panels. Just remember that pleats accentuate your tummy. If you
have a small bottom but a bit of a tummy, either choose pants
that only come up a little under your belly button or go with flat
panel pants.
Summer Clothes Tip #2
Pants that are a tad loose particularly in the summer look
casual chic and are a lot more comfortable. Pants that have pockets or
any interesting embellishment on them can help create overall balance
because your eyes are drawn to details.
One more note on pants for top-heavy body types, don’t wear tapered
pants because they will make you look more top heavy. Think of a vase
that is small at the bottom and gets larger towards the top. Although
it
may be visually interesting on a vase it usually isn’t the illusion
most women want for the bodies.
Summer Clothes Tip #3
Skirts that are the most flattering are those that have a flare to
them. Of
course the amount of flare depends upon your personal taste as well as
how much you want to create symmetry. Even a small flare can
really give the illusion of balance. Shirtdresses, shifts and wrap
dresses are probably the no brainer dress choices for the top-heavy
body types.
Summer Clothes Tip #4
Halter dresses are good options too, just keep in mind that
they can really accentuate your bust size if you're not carful about
the size of the print and the depth of the neckline. I suggest you look
for a halter dress where the back comes to the middle of your shoulder
blades. This kind dress will give you more support.
Any top style with an interesting neckline will work; form
fitting or loose in bold patterns or not, whatever your thing is.
Simply choose tops that look like an hourglass (larger at the top and
bottom with a smaller waistline). These tops will naturally accommodate
your derrière without a lot of fuss.
Shirts and blouses are great because they have the ability for
lots of detail i.e. interesting collars, pockets over the breast and an
interesting placket designs to bring the eye up towards your face and
away for your backside. Bottom heavy body types can get away with
bolder patterned tops in bolder colors.
One last note on tops: finding slim styled tunics or shorter
dresses paired with comfortable pants make for an interesting and
body-flattering look. Eileen fisher comes to mind when I think of this
style. Dresses for bottom heavy body types are empire waist, wrap
dress, trapeze and bustier style dresses with fuller skirts.
